Laser marking of implants
In the last 25 years we have developed from an integrator of laser marking equipment to a supplier of high-quality standard systems for traceability in SMT. In addition to the direct marking of cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators from the INSIGNUM product range, we also face the requirements for the production of implants with machines and solutions from the POLYPHOS product division.
POLYPHOS MK systems use a black marking process for which a novel ultra-short pulse beam source has been qualified. This process produces particularly high-contrast markings with significantly less penetration depth than the established fiber laser process. They are therefore biocompatible. This type of marking has also been shown to be more durable in surgical instrument applications with regular sterilization.
Final prosthetic implants made of ceramic, on the other hand, require other laser processes for direct marking. A pulsed DPSS laser with a wavelength in the visible range of the spectrum is used. Its shorter wavelength generates the necessary energy density to permanently mark various ceramics. Here, POLYPHOS MK systems also provide the solution with specific laser technology.
