Third day of the Compamed exhibition in Düsseldorf
ASYS Life Science - MOTUS Transfer System integrated in MULTIVAC Packaging Solution
For the Compamed exhibition in Düsseldorf from November 15 to 18, ASYS and MULTIVAC designed a joint exhibit to highlight their combined expertise in the field of pharmaceutical and medical technology. A MOTUS transfer system for the controlled transport, loading and buffering of syringes was designed.
Automated loading of syringes
The joint exhibit presents an example of an application in which the automated loading of syringes into product carriers was implemented by the MULTIVAC H 242 handling module. A powerful MULTIVAC vision system integrated into the MOTUS transfer system ensures that the combination product is reliably checked for completeness and that the individual products are correctly inserted into the intended cavities. There are many possible applications for the MOTUS transfer system that go far beyond the demonstrator. Whether it is the connection of traysealer cells, the transport to function testers or the direct connection of assembly cells.
This combination of the ASYS MOTUS transfer system and the MULTIVAC packaging solution combines individual competencies of two leading machine manufacturers from southern Germany. The companies are responding to the growing demand for flexible automation solutions for the regulated industry. Where manual activities and transports still take place in pharmaceutical or medical technology companies today, there will be an increasing number of goods carrier systems in use between individual process stations in the future.
Transport in GMP environments
The transfer system is the ideal solution for this. It is suitable for transport in GMP environments and can be expanded modularly. The system meets the requirements for the life science industry with ISO Class 7 cleanroom ability. The system is designed with particularly clean surfaces and has hardly any edges and joints. As a result, it is easier and better to clean and meets the GMP requirements for the manufacture of pharmaceutical and medical products. "Particularly in medical technology, great flexibility is required. Individual process islands, which are still often supplied manually with trolleys and trays in many cases, are increasingly interconnected with transfer lines of goods carriers. As a result, not only the output quantity is increased, but also the traceability and at the same time work-in-process (WiP) are reduced and the overall productivity is increased," says Dirk Bauernfeind, responsible Product Manager for the Life Science division at ASYS.
"In the life science industry, in addition to efficiency, the top priority is the process and operating reliability of automated packaging solutions. To meet these requirements, we are increasingly using automation, identification and inspection systems in our flexible packaging solutions, in addition to packaging technologies that meet the high demands of the industry. In doing so, we also make use of systems from other companies, such as the transfer systems from the ASYS Group, which understand and meet the specific requirements of the life science industry. In addition to the quality of the ASYS Group transfer systems, we particularly appreciate the fact that they can be harmonized with our systems without any problems," explains Dr. Thomas Kafka, Product and Business Development Manager responsible for the Medical Solution Division at MULTIVAC.
In the future, both companies can imagine more and more applications for which joint solutions will be realized. The synergies of the two companies are convincing to offer customers in the life science industry complete solutions from a single source. This can be impressively demonstrated by the exhibition demonstrator. Both companies are already working on various projects, have current joint orders, and already have complete solutions in production.
